The people of Narragansett approved a bond issue to build a high school at a referendum held on August 8, 1972. The Canonchet Farms site on South Pier Road was chosen as the location because it was felt that it would be both centrally located for busing and close to the elementary school. Construction was completed in July of 1975. Narragansett High School was dedicated on July 27, 1975. Its doors formally opened to its first 600 students on September 4, 1975.
